Over the years, Mattel has hired us for numerous design and illustration projects. One such project was “Teen Trends,” where we were asked to create the product identity and package design. Four dolls, each with their own fashion style, came in a package that unfolded to create a permanent wardrobe box. Mattel asked us to design everything in this line, from sourcing and photographing the fabrics used in the packaging matching the style of each doll’s personality, creating the illustrations for the packages and Look Book magazines, to art directing the two-week photo session for all the images used in the line. Each doll had her own font, logo charm, a wide variety of accessories, including her very own dog.
We have highlighted Kianna’s packaging, reflecting her rocker persona. Shown here are the front, back, and opened-up pack-out box which converts to a carry-all wardrobe, as well as the packaging for her pet, Cleo.
Shown below are the four “personalities” for each doll.
